However, to be eligible for this compensation, it is important to arrive at the airport on time.

 Compensation amounts

The amount of your compensation varies depending on the length of the delay and the distance of the journey. Below are the different amounts you may be entitled to based on your situation.

  • For a flight of 1,500 km or less: you may be entitled to €125 for a delay of less than 2 hours or €250 for a delay of 2 hours or more.

What flights are covered by EC Regulation 261/2004?

If your flight has been delayed or cancelled, you are entitled to claim compensation. Indeed, the European Union has implemented EC Regulation 261/2004 to protect passengers' rights. This Regulation legally defines the conditions under which a passenger can receive compensation. There are two situations where the Regulation applies automatically.

  • Passengers whose departure airport is located in the European Union can claim compensation in the event of a flight delay or cancellation, regardless of the airline's nationality or destination.
  • Passengers arriving from a non-EU country, but whose destination and airline are located within the European Union.

Strike at Marseille Airport

Several reasons can explain a delay or cancellation of your flight. Staff strikes can cause disruptions that alter your boarding conditions. Please note that in the event of a strike, you are not automatically entitled to compensation. Only strikes by the airline's staff allow you to make a compensation claim. If it is an airport staff strike, no compensation will be possible.

EC Regulation 261/2004 allows you to claim compensation following a flight delay. Delays resulting from disruptions beyond the airline's control, such as an airport staff strike, do not entitle you to compensation. In the event of a delay, contact the airline staff to find out the reason for the disruption.

Claiming compensation for a cancelled flight at Marseille Airport

A cancelled flight at Marseille Airport allows you to claim compensation as provided by EC Regulation 261/2004. However, the claim can only be made under certain conditions. The Regulation applies only when the airline has informed passengers of the cancellation less than 14 days before departure.

In this case, your flat-rate compensation will be calculated based on the flight distance and your estimated delay at the arrival airport.

Overbooking at Marseille Airport

Overbooking or overselling by an airline means it has sold more tickets than there are available seats. In this situation, you can make a compensation claim. Note that if you are among the volunteers who decide not to board, you will no longer be eligible for this compensation.

The amount of compensation depends on the length of the journey.

  • For a flight up to 1,500 km, you may be entitled to a maximum of €250.
  • For a flight between 1,500 and 3,500 km, you may be entitled to a maximum compensation of €400.
  • For an EU flight over 3,500 km, the maximum compensation is €400, and €600 for a journey between the European Union and a non-EU country.
