Claim compensation from your airline in the event of a disrupted flight.

Flight disruptions can take many forms. Delayed flights, cancelled flights, overbooking, missed connections: if your airline is responsible for the inconvenience caused, they owe you a fixed compensation under European regulation EC No. 261/2004. Check now if you are entitled to compensation for any disrupted flight in the past 3 years by clicking the button below.

Airlines and Disrupted Flights.

Across the European Union, Regulation EC No. 261/2004 establishes the financial liability of airlines in cases of delayed, cancelled, or overbooked flights, unless the circumstances causing the flight disruptions are entirely beyond the airlines' control. If a flight disruption is directly linked to the operating airline, they must prove that they took all reasonable measures to handle the exceptional situation to avoid paying compensation to passengers.

As an air passenger, you are entitled to compensation from your airline if technical issues, excluding manufacturing defects, or operational problems within the airline are responsible for the delay or cancellation of one of your flights in the past 3 years. It is crucial to know all air passenger rights to understand when a fixed compensation is owed by your airline. For example, compensation for a cancelled flight will be denied if your airline informed you of the cancellation more than 14 days before the scheduled departure date.

The Delayed team is at your service to handle all administrative procedures related to your compensation claim with your airline. With our services, receive up to €600 in compensation for a disrupted flight, sometimes in addition to a full refund of your ticket, depending on factors such as the flight distance and airspace used.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straightforward answers to help you understand your rights and prepare your claim.

How long can an airline delay a flight before cancelling it?

There is no period after which a flight automatically becomes cancelled. Whether to delay or cancel is an operational decision for the airline; the thresholds in EU law trigger passenger rights, not an automatic change in the flight’s legal status.

Once departure is delayed by five hours, you may abandon the trip and request a ticket refund. If you continue, care remains due according to delay and distance, and arrival at least three hours late may qualify for compensation under the Regulation’s conditions.

Which airlines have the most delays?

No universal ranking remains valid throughout the year. Results change with the period, airports, geography and method: total delayed flights, percentage of flights or delay minutes. A large airline can record more delays simply because it operates many more services.

For a meaningful comparison, use a dated source, the punctuality rate and sample size, ideally for your route. EUROCONTROL’s reviews track punctuality and delay causes across Europe. See EUROCONTROL’s latest aviation overviews.

Which airlines cancel flights most often?

Be cautious with any league table that has no date or method. Cancellations vary with season, network, strikes, weather and air-traffic-control constraints. Raw totals automatically make the largest operators look worse.

Compare cancellation rates over the same period and, where possible, for the relevant airport or route. History can indicate risk, but it never changes your rights for a specific flight: those depend on itinerary, notice, re-routing and the actual cause of disruption.
